OSTEOPATHY

What is Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a form of manual healthcare which recognises the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Osteopaths focus on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulation, connective tissue and internal organs function as a holistic unit.

Using their skills in observation, evaluation and diagnosis osteopaths can identify all different types of dysfunction in your body. We recognise that each individual develops their own biomechanical changes in response to the physical and emotional stresses its exposed to and in turn we create an individualised treatment plan to address these changes.

Osteopathic treatment uses techniques such as stretching and massage for treatment of the soft tissues (muscles, tendons and ligaments) along with mobilisation and manipulation of specific joints and tissues. They also provide education, exercise and lifestyle advice, with the aim to improve your mobility, function and overall health to achieve long standing results.

In Australia, osteopaths complete 5 years of university and are trained in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, pathology, general medical diagnosis and osteopathic techniques. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners and are trained to recognise conditions which may require medical referral.

Osteopaths can treat a wide range of conditions in both adults and children which may include:
  • Back and neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Joint and muscle pains
  • Sports injuries
  • Pregnancy related pain

It may also be helpful in reducing symptoms of sinus congestion, period pain, constipation and reflux.
